AW Faber / Faber-Castell Instruction Manuals

Instructions For The Use Of A.W. Faber's Improved Calculating Rule (version 1 c1905-10? & version 2 c1910-12, enhanced Mannheim)

These two versions of these instructions are from around the same time period and although the layout and texts are almost identical there are a few subtle differences:

- The earlier version is slightly narrower physically, although the printing area is the same.
- The front corner decorations and matching back motif are more ornate on the earlier version, the
later version is a less 'curvey' style.
- The eariler version uses some subtly different typefaces and sizes on the front page compared to
the later version, most obvious are 'MANUFACTORIES' and 'HOUSES'.
- On the front page of the earlier version 'N.J.' is not bracketed and 'U.S.A' is, on the later version
'N.J.' is bracketed and 'U.S.A.' is not.
- There are 2 additional paragraphs in the introduction of the earlier version about construction
features which are not present in the later version. The pagination is consequently slightly
   different.
- Other than mentioned above, the text and punctuation is identical between the versions, except a
typo was introduced in the later version - 'above' in 'Example 9 on the back page is now spelt
   'abvoe'.
